I grew up in a fundamentalist evangelical church that taught pre-millennial dispensationalist eschatology. If you know what that means, I’m sorry. If you don’t know what it means, it’s the belief that in the last days, Jesus will come back- at least half way- collect all the Christians in the Rapture, and party in heaven for 7 years while a number of things happen here on earth; mainly the rise and rule of the “Anti-Christ”, who will appear to solve all the world’s problems and herald in peace and prosperity, at least for 3 ½ years. The other 3 ½ years are hell on earth as God’s wrath pours out in the Great Tribulation. That’s basically the future I looked forward to most of my childhood. And adults thought listening to heavy metal, and playing Dungeons and Dragons would fuck me up!
I’ve grown up to recognize it for the propaganda fear tactic- not all Christians believe this nonsense- but holy shit, 2020 is definitely making me reconsider positions on many things lol Yet the weirdest, most bizarre aspect of this strange time is that we now actually have a leader that looks like the “Anti-Christ”, more so than we ever have, and Christians LIKE him! They are his support! Our Christian churches have become centers of right-wing nationalist idolaters. Instead of a Golden Calf, modern American evangelicals erected an Orange Moron to bow down and worship. It’s weird, I never imagined the faith of my heritage would be high jacked by a narcissistic reality tv personality and become a political death cult. Perhaps the oddest thing is that they selected the most literally “anti-Christ” individual possible. Truly, Donald Trump is the living embodiment of the 7 deadly sins- pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth. And yet somehow this guy, whose only real demonstrable skill is being mean and insulting on social media, is somehow the one God sent to save America. I’m sorry, what Bizzaro alternate universe are you living in if you believe this? In contrast, Galatians 5:22-23 lists the “fruits of the Spirit”, the markings a true Christian- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I ask you- which one of these traits do you think Donald Trump exhibits the most
